Post Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Just so you know. ;)

I may have many faults, but greed ain't one of 'em.

I'll be selling my 2cv soon, maybe in the next couple of weeks or so, and I'll put the ad up on here before I do the e-bay thing. I know DA's gonna' say I've gone all noble again, but to forum members I'm only looking for three grand. If it goes on ebay I'll describe it honestly and take what comes, although I may still put a buy it now on there to stop people paying too much.

It's not perfect, but in building it it's had much more tlc than a garage could afford to give it and still make a profit. Most of the running gear etc is new, and you still have this blog to look back over to see the work that went into it.

I'm just letting you know in case you go out next week and buy that new fitted kitchen the wife keeps asking for. You'll only kick yourself the week after. :P

Apart from the nasty interior and the shocking wheel trims, I think that is a cracking looking car. Honest :oops: A more classic 3-box design you'd be hard pushed to find.

O-N (Old-Noble... :P ) I'd love it if someone on here bought your car.

If they don't, tho', then sod the reserve! It has nowt to do with 'greed'. You must know that there's every likelihood that if you place it on eBay with a BIN, it'll be bought by either a garage - who'll flog it on with an extra £k or more on top - or the type of twat who was chasing that fake-Charlie a week back, but who'll guffaw to himself at finding a cheaper 'done-up' car instead - with no appreciation of the difference.

Ok, it might equally go to a 'deserving' home, but just imagine the smug git who could turn up to collect it from you, grinning like a Cheshire-Cat, eager to prove to you just how much he appreciates what you've done with the car - "I've bought these matching green sunglasses to wear when I'm driving it..."

Will your good lady be able to hold you back?

Doesn't need any work, but that's a seriously sweet car for the money.

I understand what you're saying DA and if it doesn't go on here then maybe I'll just let it run on ebay, as you're right about the dealers. I'd just hate to be accused of ripping an ordinary person off when the cold light of day hits them and they realise they just paid cash aplenty for an old 2cv.

Then again, they could be blissfully happy with their purchase. I only think three grand's a lot because I haven't got it. Regarding what replaces the 2cv, well I've been giving this some thought. The way things are for me I've decided that I need to simplify things a little, two cars is too much. I realised today that ever since 1977 when I passed both my bike and car tests, I have never been without at least two vehicles, be that two cars or one bike, one car.

I sold my Passat last September and ever since have used the 2cv. For everything.
I'm tired of rust and flimsiness so no more A series I'm afraid, and can't really buy another classic because with me anything can happen, and often does. Dead cert I buy a car, dismantle it, and get notice to move out of the house.

That leaves what I call 'modern classics,' that is, something that is modern-ish but will become classic because of it's design. I figured if I buy one of those then I can run it and enjoy it by keeping it nice. The wife loves those Rover 75's and the prices are really on their arse at the moment due to head gasket woes. You really do get a hell of a car for absolutely peanuts, and they can't all be bad ones.

I don't want to take the risk though. Or rather I do but couldn't stand the nagging if it broke. So that leaves the camper van idea. This is the wife's preferred option. Earlier she spent about half an hour describing exactly what I should buy. I think I got it, or at least the gist of it. From what she told me I think she wants me to look for something like this;

But there has been a development. Something has caught my eye, and in my book it's a modern classic in the waiting...and it'll be fun waiting. Ladies and gennllemen, I give you...my intended next purchase. - I shit you not!

So, from 2cv to stealth fighter in one (giant) leap.
