Alright then, as I was getting all off-topic on the ebay thread, I wanted to spark the debate on "rat-look". As a part-time dubber I must admit I love it.  And these cropped up on the aforementioned ebay thread -    I'd love to see some more real examples, plus what does everyone think? Blasphemy that makes a mockery of a concours model, or two fingers up to other motorists (sorry ANOTHER two fingers up to other motorists!) |

What I've often wondered is how you control the rust. How do you maintain the rust so as to prevent it going cronic and making holes? And I'm guessing it's kind of the right rust in the right places? ie it looks cool on the boot and the wings but the floors and sills are fairly solid? |

I don't mind the rat look so much, though there is something about lowering cars I can't get my head round. For me its really rather unpleasing aesthetically. |

I can't really agree with you on the whole, but I'm not a fan of the Ami6 saloon in the pics above. It looks more like it's been lowered as far as possible for no other reason than he can, the finished article doesnt look as nice as it would have done if it were about 4" higher at the back. |

Personally, I really like the aesthetic of the whole rat/surf look, especially when teamed with a mint interior and spot on mechanicals. I tip my hat to the skills involved in lowering and channelling - just wish I had them, but yup, that ami is just too low at the back end - it's lost the stance. It's the dub buses that really work well I think - but would love to see a rat H van. |

As I think you noticed last weekend Sam, I managed to get rusty fibreglass wings when the sparks from my grinder embedded themselves and then went rusty
