Post Make you feel like crying
Just been reading this weeks copy of Classic Car Weekly and according to them people are moting their cars just to use the scrappage scheme

But thats not the shocking thing, what made me want to scream swear words as loud as i could was the fact that somebody moted a Citroen Dyane just to scrap it :o :o :o :o, apparently it only needed kingpins and a couple of tyres too .

Shame they didnt put the guys details up, we could have popped round and inserted his new car somewhere (sideways) ;)

That's something that really grinds my gears...

From what I understand, all sorts of classics have been traded in on this scheme...what makes it worse, it's our tax money that's paying for it!!

this scrappage scheme is a load of shit.... i mean to think that classic car owners are actually doing that.... for what, a new modcon euro box heap of donkey shite thats gna leave you stranded halfway down the m'way with the aa called out cos your ECU's packed up.... fuck offf..... id much happier keep my 2cv anyday!

doesnt make me want to cry, makes me want to go round their houses with a trolley jack handle and show them the meaning of "your a c:)nt" how dya like your new car now... just cos you got 2k off it and the rare classic is now merely a box....

It's all hot air, and won't kill off classic cars, let alone 2cvs.

I'd imagine there were more 2cvs killed in the UK 2cv racing championship last year than the scrappage scheme will get.

Calm down, they're just cars.

If they mean that much to you, all you have to do is offer the owner more than the dealer is. If you don't think the cars are worth the £2k the dealer is offering, and you're not prepared to pay that for the car, you can't complain that they are buying them up to do as they please.

They tried it in France years ago, there are still plenty of old cars out there.

I've had that too with the Dyane.

"You could get £2000 for that off a new car, you know"

"I know. Then I'd be just like you, wouldn't I?"

A wry smile as I walk away chuckling to myself at their ignorance.

Its not the classic cars that are being scrapped that is the worry. As we where talking about today, the Citroen BX will end up like the GS... its a car that isnt worth alot that can be traded in for 2K off a new car. Same with ZXs. In my oppinion, alot of "modern" cars are going to become classics rather quickly and rare to come by in future years.
