Post Anyone knows...
... whats happend to this 2CV?
We spotted it during our holiday in England last year. At that moment it was located in High Street in Lamberhurst, Kent.
As far as I can remember the doors weren't locked, so it came to our minds to save it from the scrapyard.. , but we left it right there...

The "do not ignore-notice" was at that moment already ignored for about 4 days..

Anyone?

hmmm,

The enquiry is complete

The vehicle details for E462 FUF are:

Date of Liability 01 09 2009
Date of First Registration 25 05 1988
Year of Manufacture 1988
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 602CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status SORN Due to Expire
Vehicle Colour YELLOW
Vehicle Type Approval null
The information contained on this page is correct at the time of enquiry.
Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate £68.75
12 Months Rate £125.00

i see the SORN is due to expire - for those who don't know what SORN is i'll try & explain...

All vehicles in the UK have to display a vaild tax disc in order to be used on the road.

If a vehicle's tax disc expires or the vehicle is taken off the road for restoration work/winter storage etc, then you must make a SORN (statutory off road notification) declaration, this basically tells the DVLA (the guys that keep records of all vehicles registered in the UK) that the vehicle still exists & that be declaring SORN it will not be used or kept on a public highway while it is in force. If a vehicle that has an expired tax disc is being stored on the public highway & it becomes known to the police they will stick a notice on it as the 2cv above shows. If the vehicle isn't claimed by it's owner within 7 days & he or she pays the penalty that's set down by the DVLA, or the vehicle will be sent for destruction. Sometimes they get sent to a council holding area before they are sent for disposal. Hope that helps to explain how it works.

If I understand correctly:
the cars should still exist, and should be off the road/stored.

The Date of Liability (insurance?) seems to be until next month.

Looks like the car still has a owner, still is insuranced and needs a new SORN-status...

Seems like you have a similar system as we have in Holland. We can check on the website from the RDW (dutch DVLA) almost the same:
How long the car had MOT, how long the last owner has it and stuff like that

date of liability is when either your tax, or sorn status ends.

Yes, Tom. It looks like the 2cv may still exist. The date on the notice is 15/7/08 & the SORN is due 1/9/09. SORN is valid for one year, so perhaps the car was on the road with a expired tax disc & later the owners came forward, paid the fine & then declared SORN. Also on the notice there are two boxes - one for 'storage' & one for 'destruction' so it looks as if it would have gone into storage by the local council rather than straight for destruction.

Hopefully the 2cv is still out & just waiting to be returned to the road. :)

The (red) tax disc on the car has '08' in the middle (august?). I can't read the other numbers on the disc, but is assume the last 2 should also be '08' (2008?). If the last 2 aren't '08', the car was towed away earlier I think. Or can a car stay for a year or longer on the road with a expired tax disc?

At the moment of the notice the tax-disc should be valid, if my assumptions are right.
Maybe it's because of the cars appearence they put the notice on the car...

Not convinced that's anything to do with tax, is it, Neil? The picture was taken last year, so it may well have been taxed then... The notice doesn't say that the owners have to contact anyone or pay anything, just that they think its been abandoned and it has to be removed. Also, the contact address on there is for environmental services?

The SORN does suggest that it din't get crushed, at least! :)
