Don't take it for granted. Make the very most of it.

Ive not had much to do with my 2cv recently as Ive been doing other things. However, this evening I've got one car that's done it's head gasket and another car which I am supposed to be racing tomorrow that's got a great big puddle of coolant under it as the water pump has literally just given up.

ALL the problems I've ever had with 'normal' cars have stemmed from the cooling system.

Looks like my days racing is now half a day in an mx5 on a hard shoulder followed by half a day doing a Seicento head gasket in the pissing rain.

Or sticking a set of floors in a rotten 2cv and hoping it'll get an mot.

I hope MX5 ahead gaskets don't go too often as my eldest has just bought one.....http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazda-MX5-Eun ... 3cde0a71f2

I don't think they're known for it, mine definately hasn't done its HG. it's a brilliant car otherwise. It's my Fiat that's got 3cyls and no head gasket. Ironically now all three of my cars are air cooled just like the 2cv.

Technological wizardry isn't worth investing in either. Today the megane decided it won't start if your foot is on the clutch, only the brake. And the windows reset themselves again today, twice. Yeah. The windows for Christs sake.

And yet my Range Rover Evoque has now done 46k in 17 months without a hiccup AT ALL! My merc c250cdi went through an engine in16k and then another at 60k so sometimes it's the luck of the draw...

Head gasket's gone on my merc. Currently waiting until easter until the local specialist can do it. Am using the 2CV as the main car until then.

Tbh - it's the only reason why I run an old 2CV - I dont want anything to do with water cooled cars as they are a pain in the arse to fix and work on...

why do some/most "normal" car engines have flat surface regarding the head to block :?:
the 2cv is great in that respect with its stepped head to barrel, not even a gasket is needed
