Post subject:  Which (if any) electronic ignition

Hi all, I am collecting my 2cv on Sunday :D :D :D having had a few in the past(none with electronic ignition) I am keen to do away with the points and condenser and replace for a hopefully more reliable electronic ignition

I am seeking help and comments on which system is best in your own opinions

Any trade offs? I have looked on ecas and 2cv city, there does not seem to be a huge variation in the price between 123 and lumenition. I always thought 123 was the bench mark, I asked Samuel which he runs on his D*lly, I think he runs a lumenition component. He knows a bit and speaks to a lot so I may opt for that

Anyways thanks in advance as earlier mentioned

The new addition will be a 1986 charleston currently on points

ive never had lumenition, and i cant say points have ever let me down, providing you look after them, and replace when necessary, i ran 123 on my last car, but i cant say it made a lot of difference, not in my case anyway

Thanks, I managed to find some old posts on this topic and its a right ol mixed bag, may just run the points this winter to see how she fares, from what I understand seems like you get more spark from e/e

You could always add a capacitor discharge ignition to the points if you don't want to strip it down - prolongs points life and gives a big juicy spark - not many places do them but you could try a motorcycle shop rather than go for the expensive Boyer ones - good old fashioned sparkrite etc

Er James - sorry but most, nay, all modern cars run electronic ignition of some design or another and, unless they are fatally flawed, start a darned more reliably than a points equipped A series.....

Sweet, a massive argument about electronic ignition! Can't wait to wade into this. If your car won't start on points then it's broken, mine starts fine hot or cold, wet or dry on points. Just because it's old tech doesn't mean it has to be dismissed because something else has come along in the meantime. If we all did that none of us would have 2cvs.
