the vent flap seal has had it, and if i dare touch it ill chip the paint work like i just did trying to,

You draw the line at the point where it ceases to be fun. However remember that whatever you drive motoring costs money.

What your car is doing isn't anything especially out of the ordinary. Stick some money into one of Ken's chassis and it'll last to all intents and purposes indefinitely. The shell that sits on the chassis won't, unless you put some fairly serious effort into preserving it. Doing the chassis won't cost that much. A brand new one isn't a fortune and it can be swapped fairly quickly. There are also lots of used ones about. Buy a wreck sitting on a decent chassis and just swap the shell.

You have to set reasonable objectives. Are you going to swap the chassis as part of a complete restoration? If so you better find something else to drive as it can't be done in a weekend. Or are you just going to swap the chassis and bolt all the old stuff onto it. In that case stick to that plan and don't gild the lilly. Without a clear objective you'll just get bogged down and end up with a half finished job. Before you pick up a spanner make a plan, the plan has to be realistic, achievable and time bound.

You have to weigh up the pros and cons, is it fun, can I afford it, do I want to spend the time on the car?

If you went to a few 2cv events you'd see the good side of it. I agree that the cars are a total inconvenience, but if you never see what fun you can have because of them then you're going to get pissed off pretty quick and sell up and buy a decent normal car instead. You're not doing anything that the rest of us haven't had to do before!

your right
was thinking that ealier,
if i spent more time half naked wankerd of my face trying to drive my car sideways in a field with other 2cv'ers id see the good side,
on the other hand its been nothing but a complete cock recently,
im sure my luck will turn,
i felt like burning the bloody thing ealier!
im vent flap less for now, managed to earn the money of my rents for a new one by working my finger to the bone on a bank holiday, so ill get a new one soon,
and whilst im there going to overhall the wiper system

moving forward

I have a friend... he is a first owner of 2cv from 1975. Every year for past 10 years I am repairing his car . Some repairs here, some there... changing chassis, new breaks... Every year servicing before MOT... It is his first car and only car that he ever owned (and one old camping car) and he is very happy with it.
This 2CV is not representative . We who know this guy and this 2CV ... we have a lot of respect to him.
Last few days I was repairing again this car... this time it was vent flap - front wind shield part. And as he don't have money for car and I don't have money for some work on my house we agree that I will work on 2CV and he will work on my house...

This guy didnt loos faith for 36 years ...
