Right boys and girls, there's a 2cv local to me, that just sits in it's owners garden, casually rotting away on there lawn. Now I see this as a shame, I was told that it wouldn't be too cheeky to write a letter to ask if they'd consider selling it (see where this is going??) now if I was lucky enough ( could only dream!!) to buy this old rusting reck, my plans are to get it an MOT drive it through winter on the salty roads, and then bring my car back to life in spring, and spring on wards restore this one.. NoW do you think I'm being a bit cheeky by writing asking? Its about 2 miles fromme, and I'm considering popping a letter through there door, now comes the bit I need help with. My dad is going to help me after I've written it, I'm useless with letter writing, any hints / tips or even maybe a letter you've written to someone so I can use it as a guide?? I really really want that car, but life is never so smooth and it will probably be a no ![]() Ta |

I'd go knock on their door and ask politely. |

Hmm. My speaking skills are worse that my spelling, I'd find it a bit awkward. Espesh if they said no!! Is it the most effective way in your opinion? |

Just be cheeky. What you don't ask, you don't get. I'm quickly learning that. |

If you're standing in front of someone it is a lot easier to gauge their reaction. You can make a casual enquiry. Pretty difficult to write a casual letter. Turn up in your 2CV, explain you're an enthusiast and ask them about the car. You can get any kind of reponse from the erroneous belief the car is hugely valuable, to sod off to please take the thing off my drive. You won't know unless you ask. |

Hi James, I'd agree with twofifty AZU, in that your best approach may be to roll up in your 2CV and make an enquiry in person. Best scenario, woman of the household answers and begs you to 'take it away please, right now if possible', worst scenario is that they ask you to get it back on the road for them, but that's another story... ![]() ken. |

I've written notes and posted them through peoples doors before and nearly always ended up taking the car away. I've also had people put notes through my door begging me to take their cars away-although, that scenario is not quite so common these days! I'd have to agree with twofifty and Ken, just pop round in your 2CV and knock on the door-nothing ventured, nothing gained! |
