This is great to read through Babelfish: Translated into interesting English Quote: Afterwards it continued to go on heart-all-dearest small white roads, which finds so only my related by marriage navigation system, into normandy to marvelous meadows and forests as well as beaches and chalk rock. Good Job Viking ![]() |

Viking, perhaps it's a trick of the light, but the oil return scroll in that picture seems to be worse than the worst of this batch... ![]() ![]() |

OK now I get it. No no the input shaft is fine, the camera is not picking that up. Wouldn't fit a crappy part unless in the middle of the Australian Outback with no parts available, just to be able to continue |

Norman, the 'oil return scroll' is a type of thread formed on the input shaft. As the shaft spins, it moves any oil which is trying to escape out of the gearbox back towards the chamber in which the crown wheel sits. There's a small drain tube cast into the housing opposite the saw tooth section for this purpose. The problem is that if the input shaft is out of true ( input shaft bearing shot, centring dowels between engine and gearbox not fitted, etc.) the scroll will be worn away against the inner surface of the steel tube through which it passes. The general rule is that if the scroll is worn so that the 'valleys' are narrower than the 'crowns' of the threads, then the shaft is scrap, as the chances of oil reaching the clutch plate are increased... ken. |
