 Re: COMPETITION TIME ! is it a pic facing forwards, on the near side, next to the bottom of the air filter where it attaches to the carb, and possible is it the coil, in white?! or the outer 2cv boot with the wing off,,, or is it an exhaust of some description, maybe cross box, cut open, or bsomething to do with the heat exchanger sorry to name almost everything under the bonnet  just thought id say everything i can think off!

I'll give you all a clue in so much as the part pictured is not in context, it's removed from it's original position and being held in my hand. Seeing as you live round the back of British Leyland, it's likely to be a photo of the back of the hub of a quartic steering wheel off an Austin Allegro, that was pinched off the production line in 1973 by Red Robbo and buried in your back garden for safe keeping. Trouble is, it was so safe he forgot where he buried it, and you've just dug it up......Or something like that...Or maybe not
