Being new to 2cv I would like to see a tech section. Articles with pictures on maintence ie setting the timing, adjusting the valves, rebuilding a brake master, alternator, starter. How to adjust the parking brake, doing a complete brake job or clutch. How about intro to welding from basic equipment to advanced tig welding.
Here in the states its rare to see another 2cv much less find a shop to work on the car.

Yes a very good idea but who is going to write it. I started to write about repairs in this forum but gave up due to so called experts shooting it to pieces just because I didn't write it or followed their way of repairing. Still today I get small sour drops about my king pin replacement write up, telling me that some is wrong  Bugger that.
Oh yes, don't use a gasless welder, its hopeless but I still use mine without problems despite what the experts say.

Apologies for the thread drift Sam, but ...

... Bollocks to 'em, Viking. I wrote a guide on how to set valve clearances for those who had no idea how to do it. Anyone who knew enough to correct me (as I think you did, in fact ;) ) would already have had their own way of doing it and wasn't the target audience anyway. I'll be doing another when I replace the piston rings, and if some people find it useful I don't mind getting on thread corrections from other people. In fact, that's how we learn, and none of us ever stop doing that.
In a desperate attempt to drag this back on topic, I promise to submit any tech articles I write for this forum to the mag. And some of the photos I took at Snet. And maybe an article about some of the dangerously irresponsible alcohol fuelled stuff we used to get up to on camps back in the olden days.

That's all very well and I agree that the knowlegde needs to pass on to others. However I was dragged through the Citroen school at Citroen Copenhagen and told the Citroen way. I have followed their way of servicing and reparing A models since without problems. The valve clearence is a subject that will bring people to a boiling point. Done them to Citroen's specifications for decades at 0.20 mm then some so called experts tells me and others to forget that and set them 0.25 mm. Why the f.... go against Citroen with the attitude '' I know better '' and so on and blabla. If somebody want/need to write a tec section, yes go for it but stick to Citroens recommedations. What people do otherswise is their choice.
Haynes is a good example, very usable for beginners but full of mistakes.

I didn't realise there was so much tech archive on the club forum. Hmmm....

There's a hell of a lot! And, without wanting to 'diss' this place, it's rather better organised for finding old stuff than here.

That's part of the reason I reckon Sean's idea of a monthly 'round-up' could be such a good idea - hopefully as well as providing info. for those who just don't 'do' computers, it will give those who do but just haven't found the forum an idea of how much knowledge there is to be gleaned from it. In fact, if no one else wants to do it, I could probably be persuaded to compile it....

So, every month, do a round up of what technical stuff has been discussed on the forum? I like that idea. It will push people towards the forum and give an insite into the technical input of members.
Are you volunteering Luke? :)

Having looked through the archive on the club forum, there are some useful 'top tip' and 'how to' entries which with the authors permission could be reproduced in print.

[quote="violetlobster"]P.P.S. I'd like to complain to the proprietors of this forum about the lack of quality swearage allowed. Thought we were allowed to 'spEak Ou're bRanes' quote]

sorry for the massive thread drift , just spent ages laughing at that website then spammed it round the office, got a reply, "why have you sent us a link to a website about wanking?"

er on the mag um probably doesn't need to contain anything on that, some stuff about cars would be fine. although it used to have a regular volvo hating thing going on or have I misremebered?

A while ago, I was looking at a mag that had a 'reader's technical questions' section in it, which had one question and a response from 3 of 2CVGB's generally acknowledged 'technical gurus' (i.e. Ken Hanna, Pete Abbott and I forget the third - possibly Rick Pembro), each giving a slightly different perspective/insight. I thought that was a great format, and get's round the "you don't want to do it like *that*!" arguments. I also recall an article about how to make your own boot box, years ago - stuff like that could probably be of interest to some, e.g. off the top of my head:
- how to respring the seats
- fitting a new roof/roof maintenance/what are the differences in the rooves on the market
- how to get the bootlid corner stop thingies (where the roof meets the bootlid) back in when they've fallen off (just for me!) ;-P
- fitting a stereo
- making a parcel shelf
- fitting a tow-bar (and how to tow safely - loading limits etc.)
- which coil/electronic ignition, or not?
- what you need to know/carry when driving abroad
- how to adjust headlights for Europe (that neat trick for cutting out a section on the bulb unit etc.)
- fitting a cigarette lighter/power socket/interior light
- chassis care
- pre-MoT checks you should do to avoid stupid fails
- child seats

...i.e. general stuff about day-to-day living/travelling with an A-Series.

There was a phase where technical tips were phased out of the mag because of the fear of being sued if some muppet did something stupid and came after the Club. I don't know how apposite that argument ever was, or still is, but something to bear in mind, Sam.

[BTW, I'm also in the process of trying to complete an index of technical articles that have appeared in the mag over the years. This used to appear annually in the mag, but somehow got dropped (after, Bev, I think). The first pass will be the index itself, but eventually I'm hoping to get PDFs of the relevant articles for people to reference. I'm a bit dependent on members with an archive of mags to get this finished, though. Slow progress, and it's been on the backburner recently, but it's not forgotten - honest!]

Hand up time - I have never seen a copy of the 2cvGB magazine or a member of the club (sorry) looking through this thread and the rest of the forum some of the comments and discussions are just priceless thats why I think this forum is GREAT and really works  I hope some of it does rub off into the magazine as I am sure it will make good reading.

No, I was actually on there for about three months after my membership lapsed! I always knew I was on borrowed time ... I'll get round to rejoining one of these days. :)

Sounds about right - memberships get lapsed for a month while a renewal reminder is sent out, then a month's delay until I get the next membership list the following month.

(Sorry for the gratuitous TJ, Sam! ;-P)

That was what I was thinking. It's certainly the 2CVGB forum's strongest point, to my mind. Yeah, I'd be up for giving it a go. :)

There are often some good looking technical articles in the French mags. Would it be possible to forge closer links with other publications and maybe look at a reciprocal article swapping?? (maybe a bit naive as they are commercial but .....).

I tend to agree with 2CViking that technical articles should state the Citroen recommendations but could then say that 'several people suggest xxx because ....'

The idea of a regular summary of what's happening on the forum is excellent - and why not include the wider web?
