I never understand it when people say that points and condensers are troublesome and need changing or resetting every five minutes. I did about 15000 miles in Russ's old Ami without touching the points, and I don't know how far he'd gone on them before I bought it. It was still on the same set when I sold it on ... besides, it's hardly an issue to take the fan off and change the points, and it gives you a chance to check and clean the oil cooler while you're in there, which is a thing that might otherwise get neglected.
I've got 123 on the beige Dyane, which I'll probably replace with points once I get it back on the road, purely because I know where I am with them.

I'd done tens of thousands on that set of points. They went to Czech and were in that engine from the day I fitted it.

Condensors
i wonder if the rubber gromet on the end of the can causes the early failure? realy old ones had a moulded on plastic one that incorporated the wire , cheap ones and now Ducellier/valeo ones have a flat rubber with a hole through which the wire and all the crap of the day passes

anyhoo have used boyer and have had 2 fail both due to internal faults according to the factory, ive used the \vellaman diy kits and they have been faultless( apart from the one i found in a box of rubbishy bits and id fitted without an enclosure - they dont work when wet.

RT - never had any problems with the 123 in the BB - once set has never needed re-setting - and the shed of a van has 123 from a previous owner and again has never caused an issue.
