Er yair g'day to you all from the Big Brown Land Down Under: don't know why I didn't get into Ducks a long time ago as I haven't had so much fun driving on our ever-more crowded roads for years! What a fantastic device they are! (..but even better with a 5 speed gearbox?)

We sold this toy...

... to get this toy!

Am also into veteran iron: '09 Sizaire et Naudin (watercooled  ) & '09 IHC Autowagon (one and 2 cylinders respectively)
Looking forward to being a part of the 2CV Global Community - but beware - we'll be over in Europe September/October next year for a Sizaire Rallye in Belgium!
TTFN, Geoff.

Hello and welcome!

What's the story behind your car then? How and when did it go downunder? Also, as an ignorant Pom, what's the car you sold?

Hi Russ... the car we sold was/is a 1962 Valiant (Chrysler product) "S" series.
3.6 litre slant six engine, and it had the all-important push button Torqueflite transmission which was a wonderful tranny for its day - and is still a good one.
Our 1989 car spent its first years in the UK, but somehow miraculously avoided being driven on the roads during the winter(s) - and you know what that causes. As a result the car is virtually rust free - simply amazing!
It then went to Tasmania after which in ~ 1992 it went to a good buddy here who just happens to own another Sizaire. It has done two Raids - '04 & '08, but other than that has not been a full-time road car. It has 59,000kms on the clock.
Driving it back from Victoria to here, we came through the most intense downpour I've been through for years and the only leak (amazing!) was from the vent flap, dripping down where the winding mechanism goes.
Investigation showed that the seal rubber wan't quite tight enough in the centre section, and I've stuck on a length of single-sided foam door seal strip (wind seal). I'm pretty confident that'll do the trick.

That's enough for now - and bear in mind that not all Poms are ignorant (after all, my Dad was an 'ertfordshire man!)

3.6 litre, proper engine!! bit of a step down from that to a 2cv (engine size not anything else!!)

with regards to leaking, if it becomes an irritating problem drill holes in the floor to let it drain (ive managed to stop my car from leaking)

welcome!

Hi James, yes, I see you've had some experience with leaks from the ventilator, but I won't be drilling holes in my lovely rust free floor just yet: it would seem a travesty.
Do you like my method of curing the vent leak? Took about 5 minutes... ;)
Just hope it works (but I'm pretty sure it will.)

i had thought about that
i used a lot of grease round the seal seemed to work a treat until i got a new flap!!

did you use closed sell stuff? if not it will soak up water!!

my car currently leaks in through the seal where it meats the vent and creaps around the seal into the flap,
my cure? eventually bung a load of window sealent (my best friend!) in there (it doesnt go rock hard like silicone ;)

"...did you use closed sell stuff? if not it will soak up water!!"

Yes, that's a fair comment - no the stuff used is just common-or-garden foam, but I'll be aware enough to keep in mind that after it has stopped raining I crack the vent open enough to air-dry the foam.
Another thing going for the situation is that the Duck is a second car insofar as if it's too wet, or too hot, we can pile into the other vehicle, which is somewhat more equipped with creature comforts.

Some lovely looking veteran cars you have there, Geoff :) Quite fancy owning a pre1905 motor to participate in the annual London to Brighton Veteran Run :D

James, I spent 20+ years working in an oil/gas field environment in the far north east desert country of South Australia: I have had more than enough sunshine to last what there is left for me.
The Aussie sun in summer is rather like standing next to a bank of electric bar radiators - the sun's radiant heat here is just a tad different to your UK experience I can assure you.
We have a shade panel (colour matched, of course!) which clips into place , so at least we can have some shelter from Old Sol, together with a fair bit of air circulation. I'd be guessing that it'll be tolerable (for me, anyway) up to about 35 Centigrade. After that - crank up the camper...
