OK, so it's not a 2CV...

Some of you know my best friend Charlotte, and those that do know that as well as owning the red Special Cosette she's mad about her Imp (Sammy The Chamois) - here she is with fellow Imp-er Nicola at last weekend's Practical Classics Restoration Show
They are in the Heritage Insurance Barn Find Photo Competition.

Click through to her picture HERE on their FaceBook site and LIKE to help Charlotte &Sammy and Nicola &her blue Imp to win some stuff

Thanks

I've always thought that classic VW Beetles were/are much more expensive than 2CVs. I've just been watching Wheeler Dealers episode with a 1960s Beetle and even though the programme is around 5 years old the price was much less than the 2CV featured last week. When did 2CVs become more expensive than Beetles!?!

...but 5 years ago you could pick up a taxed, MoTd 80s car for less than £500... I did, in 2006. At the time it seemed like the rule of thumb was: less than £1000 = good but no galv chassis and £1k+ would get you a galv chassis.

2cv City at the time were doing 'new' 2cvs for £5995

True, but before I posted comment I had a look on eBay and Beetles are around 3 or 4 grand, or less. 2CVs are commanding about a grand more. (There are exceptions to that rule). I suppose we could say that prices are similar.

Is it because Beetles are crap?

In the recent issue of Gazoline 209 they have the 5 most iconic cars (affordable) around. These included the Austin Mini, VW Beetle, Fiat 500, Renault 4L and of course the Citroen 2CV. It states the price and also how much they INCREASE in value year on year. The 4L was the most recent addition to the collectors so the price is ramping up considerably at 16% per annum whereas the VW Beetle has been desirable for many years this is stable at 0%, they have reached their ceiling for the moment. Austin Mini is 7%, Fiat 500 2% and the 2CV 10%.

A good read specially as we have 1 Mini, 1 2CV and 2 4Ls in the family :)

Just did a fart so loud, a bullfrog knocked at the door holding a bunch of flowers.
