My parents had one when i was young. They had a beige 1982 club and drove it untill round 1988/1989. Sold it becasue it had too much rust.
I managed to fall out of the backdoor, when my mom opend it, three times in one week. Maybe thats why I cut up my car --> no back doors to fall out ;)
Always found it a fun car, and decided to buy the one 1 have. Mainly because it was fairly cheap (700euro's with recent MOT). From that moment on, signed in on forums, clubs and went to meetings.
The first months the car was just a car, but has become a lifestyle :)

Just after getting married [in 1973] "domestic management" [aka,my wife] decided we should have a car ..... I'd always had 'bikes, but I'd sold my last one to get the money together for our wedding ..... the nearest thing to a 'bike I could think of was either a Reliant Robin or a Dyane. [ttbomk, .....the 2CV had'nt quite been announced in RHD form] ..... one of my wifes old school friends had just bought a Dyane6,and after trying a test ride in it [I could'nt drive at the time] .....I decided it was streets better than a Robin.
We bought a 1971 [J reg] Dyane4 .....we both learned to drive and passed our tests in the Dyane4 and progressed to a brand new 1975 Dyane 6 [which we owned until the chassis broke in half in 1994] ....in the meantime,I'd bought a new 2CV [our present 1988 one] when I first heard rumours of the demise of 2CV production.
Thirty seven years of continuous "A" series ownership [and 31 years of 2CVGB membership] ......and I can honestly say that I've enjoyed every moment of it.

Like 90% of other people it's cos my parents/grandparents had them. My gdad bought a new one in 75, replacing it in turn with two dyanes. They drove them to Holland twice a year. My dad had a ride in his future father in laws car and he bought a brand new blue celeste in 1985. The dyane was written off in 91 and replaced with a bx. My dad sold the blue one in 94 shortly after I was born. Apparently something more "child friendly" was needed. Anyway he bought another one in 03 or 04. It was a charleston. I remember him driving it back on the M62 generally being very nasty about it and saying there was something majorly wrong with it. It did turn out to be a complete dog and he sold it for duck all, despite there being 7 months MOT on it. After that I kept pestering him to get another and he did: This time a 2cv shittied one off a guy in Leeds. Lets just say that was a learning curve. Anyway most of the various bodges have been undone on that now, and it is soon to be my first car. :)

Mick Playfor lived round the corner from me in Morden, Surrey, Geoff and Eunice Strutt lived in my road and an old school friend John Smart who lived in the next road to me also bought a 2cv and said come to a meeting. I went to Thames Wheeldippers at a pub in Richmond. Met Pete Sparrow and Wobs (Jon Wood) there (1986) who both became my lifelong friends.
Micky Playfor was my adopted godfather and I spent most days round his house with Auntie Pauline and Suzanne.
I started going away to camps overseas with Micky - he used to phone me up and say are you doing anything this weekend and I'd say no and he'd say - right then we are going to Germany - and off I went. None of my current friends did anything like this. In 86 I went to France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg - all over Europe, plus Buxton, Ross on Wye, Oxford etc etc
God I miss Mick!
Mick helped me buy my first A series - a Beige Dyane which Mick painted a scarecrow on the boot lid, then came a 1015 2cv built by me and Pete Sparrow. Many more since.....
Pete Sparrow and I became good mates (was sick in his mums house the first night I stayed over - I blame the pork balls, although 7 pints probably didnt help). Pete was my best man at my wedding and we still speak weekly.
Pete and I drove to the Portugal World meeting in 1987, sharing the driving in his GS Engined 2cv (the Brazilian)
In about 1991 I moved to Stoke and moved in with Pip - lost my job and subsequently moved in with Richard and Suzanne Dalton - I still owe them to this day for putting a roof over my head.

People I've met on the way -
Johnny Rev - Anthony Guyon
Wally Mehari - Tony Record
Pissy Andrew
Wobbly Jon - Jon Wood
Pete Sparrow
Louis Barbour
Rick Penbro
Ru Potts
Paul & Philippa Tyson
Richard & Suzanne Dalton
Geoff, Eunice Darren and Mark Strutt
Gardi
Roy Eastwood
Phil Otley
Campus Tim - Tim Maynard
Adrian and Sandy Scott
Dave Vos
Sarah Big T (RIP)
Jenny
Bob
And many many more...........

The funny thing is that after some 24 years, nearly 25 years Im still in touch with the great majority of the above and 2cv'ing still plays a large part in my life.

Its not just the car its very much the people

Post Re: How did you get into 2CV's?
Summer 82: I'd trashed a Ford Escort by inadvertently driving it through a hedge, bringing me to the realisation that maybe as an inexperienced driver a high-powered car (1100cc in this case) was too much for me... so I decided to drop down a bit. Saved up £600, and my dad said he'd match what I saved up. Found a myosotis-blue T-reg Club at a backstreet garage in Sutton Coldfield. I bought it for the lack of power, plus the looks, and also because of the vague "don't give a toss what you think" vibe that came with having a 2cv.

My first jaunt in it was down to Cardigan, with a mate and our girlfriends. I was actually a bit surprised by the car's lack of power, the noise of wind-rush, the engine that sounded like a girl laughing, its clacky indicator, its gear change... in short, everything. My companions just took the piss! However, once I discovered how much the car leaned over in corners, the beauty of driving with the roof down, the versatility, how fun it was to tinker with, and how amazingly well it coped with nothing but abuse, I felt vindicated. I also discovered the casual camaraderie of having fellow 2cv-ers flashing and waving at me on the road.

Drove that car everywhere around Britain, and took it to Europe several times. The sills and air vent rusted badly, but the rest of the car stayed solid... until the chassis collapsed in 91. I stored the car in my dad's garage, ready for resurrection. Unfortunately, my bro took it to the scrappers while I was off travelling. The b*****d! Probably in revenge for me setting his Tonka toy on fire when we were kids.

My Dad's always lived and worked abroad, usually (since we kids all grew up) with my Mum spending six months every year out there with him. So it's always been a bit tricky to keep a car in this country and usually he just hires one when he's back. Anyway, in 1989 for some reason he decided he was going to buy a car he could use over the summer and then hand over to me to learn to drive in. We looked around lots of local garages and eventually went off to a Nissan garage in Keighley to look at a Bluebird (I think). They had a red Special on the forecourt, and we joked about maybe buying that instead before thinking "well, actually ...". So we did. Three grand, as I remember, for a three year old 2CV with (as it turned out) a f**ked chassis, which was replaced for free at the local Citroen agents.

My dad had allways a VW: passat, derby, polo... Had nothing against them, just wanted something else. My neigbour was a doctor and had DS 2.3 ie pallas and my uncle, who was a pilot, had 2cv round the year. Year 1990, after some, hmm, cars, i decided to have CX. Found 2.2 super year -76. With that i wanted 2cv or dyane, found latter. Drove both round a year, many years. :D With the dyane i drove the 1996 Raid Laponie. That time i lived in the middle of Finland, where the winters are still nice and cold. It was nice time with my 2 dogs. They could traverl inside the car. My car before was a Moshkovits pickup  Since then i´ve had few A models and my kidds love them. That´s the best part. i´ve had few nice travels with family, like the Most trip. Met nice people allover. Like in Middle-East 8-)

Post Re: How did you get into 2CV's?
As I got my driving-licence I wanted a car to go to work with.
Actually I wanted a Ford or an Opel ( Vauxhall for UK) with a lot of space.
So I went on my bicycle from one dealer to an other , untill I came in a place called Maasbree, where a local garage was without any dealership ( a village-garage.)
There was a Citroen AMI 8 Break for sale for only 1500 Gulden.
I even did not make a testdrive , I just bought it.
Why?? I still don't know !
I was very pleased with that car, especially as my father , who only owned Mercedes cars did not agree with my buy.
My brother was a little bit sceptic , but as he drove in it once he decided he would buy a 2CV as well.

I had one more AMI 8 Break , which I bought new from a local dealer.
But as i later started my own business in gardening, i needed a pickup truck .
So I sold the AMI and bought a secondhand MB pickup truck .
As my brother bought a 2CV berline again some years ago, I decided I would buy an other 2CV again.
I now own an 2CV AZU B from 1974 which I am restoring with my son ( see threat : My AZUB 1974)
I only drove it on the private path I have next to my house before we took it a part, but I LOVE IT.

Post Re: How did you get into 2CV's?
grew up on the back seat of several 2cv's, my dad used to buy a new one every two or three years. Since the eighties he started buying Visa's, an AX and the Saxo. When he retired he decided to keep driving the Saxo.

The first car I bought was a Acadiane. Drove it for half a year, then found out I couldn't possible get it through APK (MOT). Later I bought the 2CV that would become starship frunobulax.
