webuyanycar missed a fantastic marketing opportunity there. Rather than send a snotty reply, they could have bought the car for a fiver and had tens of thousands of pounds worth of media exposure for free. At the very least they could have declined with a little more grace and humour. What a miserable bunch.

Why are the teeth on this gear machined the way they are? I know it looks like wear in the photos but in fact they are machined this way. But I'm not sure why.

Worm gear?
For high reduction ratios...

Helped the baker over the road replace a set in one of his Hobart mixers a while back.
Had to dig out about 5 kg of black grease to get access and figure out how the thing was put together.
No workshop manual available, just a big lump of machined phosphor bronze which had cost him £150. ;)

I have often thought that a worm gear set inside the spring cans could be used to adjust the ride height of a 2cv... Say by cordless drill, or maybe even on board electric motor. It would be nice when raiding to be able to raise and lower the ride height for those extra difficult ruts!

Fun game:

Find all the cars on eBay that are currently 99p and put a £5 bid on them all at the same time. I did this last night. Now feeling a bit nervous.
