Dad had a Fiat 500 so I was used to power and air cooled engines.

I needed a car to get to uni and the choice at the time was:
Fiat 126, rustbucket,
Mini cramped or
2CV, 4 doors and a sunroof.

It turned out my aunt had a Dyane and she sung its praises so in 1987 I duly purchased my first car, a grey grey Charleston and the rest as they say is history...

Traded up from a Mini to the cheapest brand new car, a Dyane. I could have had a square headlamp Charleston, but didn't fancy one.

Found the Club by my passenger being handed a leaflet by a crazy woman whilst driving down the A1. Went to a 602 Squadron Club night, slowly got into the Club, been a bit strange ever since.

Melanie brought Dilly as her first car nearly 17 years ago. We were members of the club for years before the NITs was set up and we met Matt S, Chas and Rachel V-A, the Seabrooks and a whole host of other.... erm "interesting" people. We haven't looked back since.

Unlike most things in my life, 2Cv's are really something i can blame on the parents!! Not that i'm complaining though!!

First car bought by them for £50 my little orange 2CV (or brown as it's registered as), PIP, currently being re chassised by daddy :D

Even the abuse u get over having a 'shit car' couldn't put you off the love for them i don't think :D

I wrote my bike off in 2002 and I wanted another, so swmbo said if your having another bike I want a 2cv. (she'd been hankering after one for years) So we found one for sale in Newark which had been rebuilt by Charlie Maharry(the yellow&white one) and then we got in touch with the firkin flyers and madcaps and 602's. We liked the car so much we bought another one(black and white one) I like camping and getting pissed in a field. I've met some fantastic helpful people, and we've visited loads o places and my social life has never been so hectic.
Wish I'd bought her one years ago.

Post Re: How did you get into 2CV's?
thought id enlighten you all to how i became an owner of a 2cv
well ive always liked the cartoon snoopy a lot, i had pretty much every video and episode (until my mum threw them out a few years ago grrr) and in one of the 2 films they go to france and hire a 2cv,
it startted simply because snoopy had a 2cv i wanted one, then i used to see this black one around near me, and i used to always love seeing it, i always used to point out at one when i saw one and say "2cv!!"
i then begun collecting models of 2cv's and putting stickers on them, and generally beating them around, id always had pictures of them etc,
then when i was thinking about getting a car, i had 3 options
1. get another motorbike (i had one already at the time)
2. get a modern euro box
3. spend all 17 years of my savings on a 2cv

so hear i am skint, with a 2cv, definatly worth it
now when i was making my mind up about what option to go for, i couldnt make my mind up, and i shopped around for a while, and every week i would change my mind as to what i was going to get, i then thought f uck it, you only live once, so decided to get a 2cv
i looked on 2cvtv and found a really really nice bleu celeste, in warminster (not to far from me) and me and me old man where going to look at it, (this was jan 10) then it snowed a lot around here, on the week we had planned and arranged to go up and view the car, which was really sad.
as we couldnt arrange to see the car for another week, that was all fine and dandy.
my dad was then having a hair cut at a family friends house, and opposite her lived a lady, and in her drive, stood a shiny 2cv with for sale written on it
and thats how i found my 2cv
my parents both had a series, mum had a dyane and dad a white spesh, aunt and uncle had a 2cv, and they came with me to the puddle ducks meeting recently, and some of them recognised them from 18 years ago!!
oh and i was also looking at fiat 500's, but personally id had more history in 2cv'ing with the models etc and so had the family so thats what i wanted :D

The film belleville rendezvous... All the baddies drove stretch 2cv's.

I asked dad what car it was, he explained it was a 2cv and he'd all ways wanted one.

I found one on the Internet, persuaded dad to lend me £600 and drive 415 miles in a day with a trailer. Mum thought we were barking mad but didn't stop us!

And the bug's infectious, dad's now looking for one for himself

Post Re: How did you get into 2CV's?
My mum had one when I was a kid. Sadly I can't really remember it; other than that it was blue and that it would never start when it was hot. It was an fairly early ripple, suicide doors of course. Mum remembers nearly getting sucked out by opening the door when in full flight and still has a small scar on her eyebrow where the folding window got her.

That went in favour of a 2CV which did start when it was hot. It had belonged to my aunt who had it from new. That one was a mid sixties model and luxury of luxury it had a Radioen.

It got traded in on a brand new 2CV4 and the Radioen went with it :? I can't remember exactly when it got traded. I should think somewhere between 1969 and 1971. I remember going to look at it when it came in. It as all covered in brown wax as it hadn't been PDId yet. Strangly I can clearly recall the smell of the wax. Mum had that car for years. She drove it everywhere flat out and we regularly went between the UK and Holland to visit my grand parents. I remember breaking down in it once and she persuaded a passing traffic policeman in Holland to fix it there and then....

It was also the first car I ever drove. I assiduously studied the owner's manual and figured it out. I suppose I was about 11 or 12.

That was the last one she had. It went in favour of a Lancia followed by a load of other odd ball and interesting cars, Porsches (great when you just have your licence and ask a girl out) Volvo estates and various Mercedes. I never liked the Lancia as much as the 2CV, strangely mum was happy to let me loose in a 2CV but less keen on me experimenting with the Lancia

I bought my first one on a whim many years ago and have lost count of how many I've had. I never go to 2CV meets though.
