Russell,
that's very tidy, is it a new build?
If Neil can magic up a photograph of Roy's racer from years ago, I'm sure the colour scheme will look familiar.

( Don't forget to get the headlights ( & spots?) hooked up and tested well before Snetterton, also ask around about how to remove water from a Weber's float bowl without pulling the thing to pieces. ;) )

Not a new build, in fact it's quite old but been in hibernation for a few years. It's Adrian Sparrows 'Grease monkey' car (the one Little Rich rolled), last used in 2009. It's been tidied up a bit this week (in fact pushing it back on the trailer my hands stuck to the new paint  )

I was hoping to get all three engines run yesterday, and I did question why the 24hr light bar wasn't fitted, along with other bits and bobs. Again, I tried to push the argument against using Webers but unfortunately I'm pretty much alone in my thoughts on them. What's the trick for removing water from them? (as if I want to hear any more problems with the blasted things  )

Here it was a few years ago:

Russell,
last time I did any spannering at a 24 hr, I struggled for about half an hour to get the lid off a Weber carburettor and cure the misfire caused by water which had passed through the air filter and collected in the float bowl.

It was annoying to hear afterwards that not only was this a *known problem with the Weber carbs*, but also that it was possible to suck the contents out of of the float bowl using a small syringe without removing the lid.

Maybe have a word with Paul Robertson for details of how it's done?

*which could be prevented by fitting a mask over the forward facing part of the air filter during heavy rain/waterlogged track*

I did have a bit of a brainwave to make a sort of duct/shield thing to take all the air entering the grille aperture through the fan and not over the carb, hopefully preventing icing too (another known problem). we've kept the heat pipes on the manifold to try an overcome that too.

Surely it's better to run a low(er) performance solex that works than a higher performance carb that's temperamental? Is there not some sort of number of laps vs time spent in pit co-efficient?

Yeah I said that. I said it last year too. And the year before that.
