Hiya Jon, I think your C4 was/is at my work? (Citroen Redditch)

Why not come along to Wasps on Monday and join the rest of us Citroen loving beer swilling Brummies (and surrounding areas type folk) at the Coach and Horses on Weatheroak Hill?

Howdy, all. Jeff from Arizona, US of A, here, owner of an '86 Club, my fave daily driver. Rare car in this part of the world, and one of only two (to my knowledge) in the greater Phoenix area.

I've been a 2CV aficionado for some years; my first, a 1960, met a tragic end in Phoenix traffic. Insurance proceeds financed the '86. Pix to be forthcoming.

Any other 'Merkins on this board, and in particular any in the American Southwest?

Check your 2CVGB inbox, I've been on there at last and replied. :D

Hi Jeff. Welcome,

A rare bird, a 2CV-owning Merrycan. Have you got to know Will Jones of Frisco TX?

Phoenix eh? Back in 2006 I spent three months riding across the US form East to West and back again - 17,000 glorious miles. I rode through Phoenix in July I think. Damned hot, one of the hottest cities in the US and possibly the only airport that sometimes has to close because of melting tar on the runways.

I have good motorcycling friends in Tucson who I've stayed with a couple of times.

How do you manage with spares over there? Do you have to source everything from the UK?

Regards

Paul

Howdy, Paul.

Nope, I know of no Will from Frisco. Perhaps he's on the 2CV-L (Yahoo) board - I'm on there not infrequently with maintenance and repair issues- but under an unrelated username.

Phoenix does get insupportable during the summer months...the event to which you refer (airport closing due to the heat) happened back in '87, I do believe, when the temperature reached 122F. Runways didn't melt, but the charts the airlines use to calculate power/lift ratios only go as high as 120, so they closed for a couple of hours. Didn't seem too terrible outside, that day....I suppose anything over 115 feels about the same, kind of like opening one's oven door and putting one's face up to the cavity, a hot, dry blast. Not a great place to be driving an un-airconditioned car such as the Deuche, but it's tolerable as long as one keeps moving! On the up side, from my perspective, you Brits are shivering today, while here it's sunny and over 70F.

2CVs are like the proverbial hen's teeth around here, very few people have ever seen one. I'm constantly approached with questions about the car...most folks assume it's some sort of Beetle variation, so frequently that I've considered a "NOTAVW" vanity license plate.

I own also a couple of Steyr-Puch Pinzgauers (a 710M & a 712M) - so perhaps ugly and eccentric is just in my blood.

Citroen parts in the US are available through Kenji at French Parts Service or Miles at Western Hemispheres. It's been enough to keep Myrtille on the road up to now. Relatively expensive, tho'. I visit France once a year or so, and have a French acquaintance who is in Phoenix with about the same frequency, and most parts will fit into one's checked baggage.

Anyway, I'll be on this board from time to time, probably picking the brains of those more technically adept in things Citroen than I.

Cordially

Jeff

Hey Jeff

Not to worry you are not the only Merkin here. However I am not in the southwest but Chicago enjoying the subfreezing weather right now.
