By the amount of water that comes in, I suspect the windscreen seal too! I've put some clear silicone around it now and will see if that improves it - it really needs a new panel tbh

the boss had the Trust's Land Rover today so I took the car to work, strimming paths on one of our Reserves near Presteigne.

Well the silicon has worked as we had been down at our shed near Ludlow for a couple of days and driving back in the pissing rain this afternoon barely a drop came in - must be badly fitted and rusted windscreen seal and surround I presume.
Also discovered an annoying and worrying knock on bump rebound on nearside - jacked it up and kingpin, wheel bearing, track rod end and arm seem OK - then waggled the tie rod and .....bugger it's as loose as fuck on the knive edge so looks like new knive edge at least and maybe new eye as well...plus one of the lip shockers on rear is leaking oil so new set needed as well.

Nels,
did you check the 3 x M9 bolts which fasten the damper plate onto the arm, also the M12 nuts at both ends of the damper?
Re. a 'loose' tie rod, I find that there's usually free play between the the shackle/eye and the pin when the front ride height is set corrrectly.
If the tie rod is wound into the shackle far enough to remove all play, the front end will sit far too high...

Noob error. They aren't 'loose', the shackle and knife edge aren't made to work like that. Just make sure they're greased.

Checked all those items Ken - they have been well greased but seem very loose - like very loose and rattily....

This is the eye in question - is it knackered?

Looks pretty normal. In my opinion a dye penetrant test is more valid than a visual inspection when they're like that. Those hexagonal shackles crack, I tested loads a few years ago, I seem to remember about a third of them were cracked.

hmmm, questionable one, with some imagination I'd say this one has a crack already. had several of those as well, just welded them, left the weld on the outside, on the inside I filed them nicely in shape. never had any problems after that!

greetzzzzzzzzz
