 Re: Car names...
If you don't name them, how do you tell your partner which one you are using today?

 Re: Car names...
Must admit to an element of twee-ness on naming my A Types - Green 79 2CV was known affectionately as either CJ (CRJ 517T) after Reggie Perrin or "The Snotbox", Red 86 Special as Cecil (C629CEC) - current cars are the red and white D*lly named as "Dudley" as it was a bloody Ebay Dud when we got it, Dyane Sidewinder is known as Nippy for obvious reasons and the Beige Dyane as Beige Beast or TJ. Naming of A Types seems sort of apt as they all tend to have personalities whereas the numerous company cars that I have had since 1982 - something like 16 - have never required or indeed suggested naming.

I must admit, I always thought you reffered to it as the Slamboo[/quote] possibly once or twice in that thread, but, reinforcing the point I made, as soon as I heard myself say it I realised how daft it was. It's scrap metal, bent steel, some rubber and some glass. I really don't feel comfortable with naming objects like that, dogs, cats etc, yeah, it doesn't feel silly at all, but cars? Nah. Like RT said, you don't name other household items. I don't have cars for high days an holidays, I have them because I need to get from where I live to other places. I wouldn't give the bus a name if i had to use that.

 Re: Car names...
Not real names.. Pick up is often called "de halve" (the half one), or the black one, or just "mine". The Ami, is "the Ami", but named it "SalAmi"... After the sausage, but also as in Sa L'Ami.. bad french for being a friend orso.

 Re: Car names...
Naming your car is fine, for people who own d*llies, need I say more? I'm very fond of my car and would have great difficulty ever parting with it, but I've never felt the need to name it. Of all my vehicles the only one with a name is a motorbike known as pinky (I still couldn't bring myself to write that with a capital P), so called as a result of it's OTT fluorescent tank rather than an ignition fault, and that only got 'named' as I have two of the same model.

 Re: Car names...
All my cars names, most of the cars I've ever owned have had names-what's the problem with that? I don't think most of us that "name" our cars go around ramming it down peoples throats! That said, the brand new Xsara Picasso we had never got named, it was just "that" or "bastard" etc
