Re: WHY.?..... a 2cv...there must be a reason!
Same as everyone else... Parents/Grandparents had them since the 70s. My dad pussied out after I was born and bought a cnuting sierra but after me as a pesky 10 year old pestering about all the old car photos stuck on the fridge, bought another. Still the best car in the world. Still get the piss taken out of you (despite going on a 3500 mile trip in a 2cv with a knackered gearbox last week with mates I wouldn't have made without the actual car, tonight I've been repeatedly told that they still shite etc etc) You get over that though. Embrace the good 2cv people, fuck the twats off (seemingly more and more, (or could just e the fact I've had many to drink and am growing up or have had many and am now taking my frustration on thick daily mail readers of the UK out on people on here? LOL NO WORRIES GOING BED NOW). 602 4 LYF. peace.

[quote="Smiffy"]......cheap and simple to fix; easy to understand; fun to work on; spares are plentiful.[/quote
Also.....hilarious to drive, you always get out with a smile on your face (even if it's only one of relief!), looks like no other car and sticks two fingers up at the four wheeled unneccessarily technostuffed mobile living rooms modern cars have become.

Re: WHY.?..... a 2cv...there must be a reason!
Bought first 2cv new in 1979 -3rd car since passing test 3 years earlier - had just written off a Midget after t boning an Allegro which pulled out in front of me and wanted a cheap new soft top car - had always liked them after going to France since the late 60's with my parents - 2 more A series subsequently...after a hiatus from 1990 until 2007, now had a further 4 - I guess once they get under your skin you can't get the buggers out!

Re: WHY.?..... a 2cv...there must be a reason!
Funny really this is only my second car,the first being a BMW Isetta bubble car when I was 18, I really wanted a Messerschmidt but just couldn't find decent one.I'd always had bikes so the foray into the car world only lasted about a year before going back to bikes.Oddly enough I as interested in working on cars, which I guess came from my late father. I stayed with bikes then out of the blue I just wanted 2cv. I'd seen a few about and even had the main dealer in Birmingham on my police beat, but once I got into the French way of life and after many holidays all over France,we bought our house in the Charente. The 2cv followed out of the blue in April 2008 I just wanted one ,the motorcycle stayed in the garage from then, until I sold it in 2011. I just lost interest in the bike after over 40yrs in the saddle. The 2cv just got right under my skin and I've not looked back. I've found new friends from various parts of the world with the same affliction. I'm also lucky enough now to have retired and spend half the year in France with my 2cv,in a village that has other owners. It's just a great way of life...

I was looking to buy our first car in 1973 ..... my wifes friend had just bought a brand new Dyane6 .....I [we] imediately thought what a great little car it was and bought ourselves a 2nd hand 1971 Dyane4,we both learned to drive in the Dyane4 and then we traded it in for new Dyane6 .....[that car lasted us until 1995 ......I bought our present 2CV in 1988 when I heard Citroen were to stop making them]. Re: WHY.?..... a 2cv...there must be a reason!
It was my mothers fault!! They had a close friend at the time who owned a 81' Dyane 6, around 1991 the fella suddenly died and his wife didn't want it, my mum decided she would like to own it... Soon after I passed my test and started to drive it, just got hooked I suppose managed to clock up 17k miles in one year!! She got pissed off with me driving it so told me to get my own, (at a time when you could pick a good one up for a few hundred quid) so I did, it was a completed knackered 82' Dyane Côte d'Azur looked great when i finished with it..owned about 11 over the years in a variety of conditions ( never owned or driven a 2cv though only Dyanes) and even after a few years without one, some 20 years later I still have one in the garage ( well sort of one!! .....

Re: WHY.?..... a 2cv...there must be a reason!
My parents first car was a brand new Dyane 4 in 1971 I was about 5years..... After 2 years they went back to the dealer and bought a brand new Ami super break. They got the same money back for the Dyane after 2 years......
The Ami super was bloody fast, faster dan a Mercedes diesel, so there's where my love for it started.....
My first car was a red Dyane 6......

Re: WHY.?..... a 2cv...there must be a reason!
Bought a Dyane after being carless for a while - and it kind of reminded me of the Atricar (the documentary on C4 in '84 had re configured part of my brain) bought it for £70 crashed it built it worked on it finally failed an MoT so binned it and picked up another "beer money" 2cv which turned out to be a rather nice drum PO that some University staff had driven back accross Africa ( Africar thing again) chassis was shot so after 2 years got another dyane - than people started giving them to me....In those days you could get the Friday copy of "the Edinburgh Eveng News" and there would be the pick of about 10 2cvs for sale from nearly new to £10 with "years road tax and mot needs some work"- disposable motoring ...still cant get my head round these 3 figure sums they seem to fetch

Parents... World meetings... Buzz off driving something that really shouldn't work / be as fast (relative to the toaster engine) as it is.

Re: WHY.?..... a 2cv...there must be a reason!
My parents had a couple of Dyanes in the 70s, then in the early 90s when I wanted a first car 2CVs were cheap to buy and insure. Once I got one found how fun they were to drive (mostly - though freezing cold water dripping down your leg does get a little trying).
