Police weren't making much of an effort? It was on the briefing system and it's a bloody hard car to miss but there are soo few police officers you could drive a herd of cattle through any major town and the police wouldn't know about it until someone rang it in.

Pete,
reassuring to know about the chances of getting away with herding cattle through the town centre.

How about those ANPR cameras we keep hearing about?
This is from a reply by South Yorkshire Police in Sept. 2011.
"South Yorkshire Police are currently reading approximately 400,000 vehicle registration numbers per week.
This equates to approximately 20,800,000 hits per year, for fixed cameras alone.
"

Perhaps it's a question of too much information being gathered, which isn't of much use without the staff available to process it? ;)

There are a fair few anpr spikes about and on a few of the cars (obviously can't give details of where or what cars) but there are still ways of driving for lots of miles without going through one. Even if it did go through a spike the chances of getting a car to it are pretty slim. Tracker is by far the best bet.
