My renewal arrived the other day and they wanted £308.30 for it. That's the (1992) BX and the Ami. Compared to the Discovery at around £540, that doesn't seem too much but it's double last years!

I called them to see what was going on and seems that honesty doesn't always pay. Unless you ask the right questions anyway.

Last October, Mrs Spanners reversed the car into an 08 Fiesta (hence the high renewal quote), creasing the Fiestas drivers door. Nobody saw it and she could've just buggered off but, we didn't and we swapped details etc.

Anyway, having had such a high quote, I decided to see find out how much the claim had cost so I could shop around-turns out, the girl hadn't even bothered following the claim through so there weren't any costs incurred.

When I relayed this information to the renewal team, hey presto, my premium came right down!

Cheeky bastards, I wonder how many people would've just asked if that was the best they could do and just accepted it?

Incidentally, that's with Footman James, they're the only people I've come across that will cover the (19 year old) BX on a classic policy. At least without limited mileage anyway.

I feel for you new drivers on the cost of insurance these days. Getting my first policy was expensive I remember, but the kind of numbers posted in this thread are just eye watering

Has anyone tried one of those black box insurance policies, where you only pay for the distances and journeys you take? Some also record acceleration and deceleration rates, charging more for more violent drivers. May be an advantage for 2cv drivers with a 0-60 of ... er ... yawn.

Some links in this news story I found... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/road-safety/8437307/The-problem-of-insuring-young-drivers.html

Just got my official renewal quote from Lancaster and they want £200 more than last year. The only reason they gave me to why it had gone up was that it wasn't garaged (nor was it last year either!)

Been looking at tracker boxes, but it seems that 2cvs are too antiquated to fit them too!!
