Classic Car World is a monthly put out by Kelsey Publishing, who I'm freelancing for at the moment. You have to bear in mind when writing this sort of stuff that the writers are not experts on every car out there, and do rely on at most two to three sources for info. In fact, even that many can cause trouble as people start to contradict each other. Makes it a bloomin' nightmare!

I'll tell you what gets me. Take for example the last edition of Practical Classics magazine which featured a 'tax dodgers' article, in which three (iirc) pre - 73 cars were featured. One of those was a K reg 1972 Ford Capri 3000GXL about which they had written words to the effect that;

"The Capri was available in 1300cc 1600cc and 2000cc guise, but the public had to wait until 1977 for the big 3000 V6."

Er... like the big 3000 V6 from 1972 that you just feature in this test you mean?

'Not experts on every car out there'? Fair enough I agree, but not able to write about what's under their nose would be nearer the mark in some cases. Too many have a journalism qualification from Uni, but have no idea or practical experience of old cars.

Yeah, I was reading that issue last night. It's FULL of sloppy errors, that feature especially. We all make the odd mistake, but that many is just daft really.

Aye, but where were you all with your wads of cash at the time? :P

I was 'lucky' with that car actually, insofar as I sold it for £750 which was precisely double what I'd paid for it the week before. I now feel like I lost a shilling and found sixpence though, as values have shot up so quickly since.
