As a Scot the Cheks seem acivilised country surviving( by my limited experience) on beer, stew and coffee as opposed to the soft southern types with lightly sauted crustaceans and white wine

Two beers is a bit complex as the case will change between asking describing etc. Dve Piva, the pronounciation is approximately du-vee-ey pi-va.

however holding up 2 fingers will probably suffice.

If you are in a proper Czech pub you will get a tab. That is you sit at a table, a waiter brings round endless beers, marks them with slashes on a piece of paper, and you pay for the lot when you're done.
